The Institute of Innovative Development (IID) of SamSMU is the largest Russian research and production center in the field of medicine. Over the years it has become an integrative platform both for the innovation process at the University and for the development of relevant areas of medical science, the formation of unique competencies in interdisciplinary fields and the development of new high-tech business.

The key activity of the Institute is IT medicine. Practicing doctors, business analysts, engineers and IT specialists work together with the scientific community of the University on new developments.

Technological projects of the IID are implemented within the framework of research in the fields of:

• artificial intelligence,
• brain-computer interfaces,
• virtual and augmented reality.

Industrial capacities allow us to develop and implement:

• the latest technologies of treatment and diagnostics,

The activity of the Institute is built on the  «from idea to mass production» principle, while the infrastructure and its constituent divisions, including the Center for Breakthrough Research with the Department for Development of Medical Navigation Systems help to implement the projects.

One of the most important developments of the center’s scientists is the AUTOPLAN system of automated planning, management and control of results of surgical interventions created from scratch. This breakthrough solution was conceived as a hardware and software complex necessary for the work of clinicians that any medical institution can afford. Today, AUTOPLAN is being used throughout the country. The Institute cooperates with the largest scientific enterprises, medical institutions and universities in the country for the purpose of technology transfer. Thus, in cooperation with industrial partners, it is possible to introduce advanced technological solutions into practical healthcare.
